Paragon 100 Lenses

  Paragon 100 Lenses

Paragon Company has been developing materials for gas-permeable lenses for 10 years. Three times the researches were held in the conditions of weightlessness in Shuttle satellites. As the result there has been created and patented the material paflufkon, which is characterized by 100 % oxygen permeability.

Nowadays Paragon Company is recognized as the biggest producer of the materials for gas-permeable lenses. More than the half of all companies, producing rigid lenses, use for their production the paflufkon material of the Paragon Company.

High oxygen permeability and low content of moisture (less than 1 %) reduce considerably the danger of lenses’ soiling, as these factors make difficult penetration of the pathogenic flora into them and considerably facilitate their mechanical cleaning.

According to the statistics the risk of the development of microbal keratitis due to wearing gas-permeable rigid lenses is 4 times lower than due to wearing soft contact lenses (0.01 and 0.039 % accordingly), and 20 times lower than due to prolonged wearing of soft contact lenses.

Modern rigid gas-permeable lenses are more physiological.

Gas-permeable lenses don’t cover the cornea completely and ensure good continuous circulation of tears.

Good advantage of ortokeratological lenses is the complete reversibility of their effect.

All the abovementioned advantages allow recommending the Paragon CRT 100 night lenses for using from 6-year-old age. (FDA 2002).

Indications for corneal refractive therapy are:

- myopia from -0.5 up to -6.5 dioptres;

- hyperopia from +0.5 up to +3.0 dioptres;

- astigmatism up to 3.5 dioptres;

- progressive myopia, as it (CRT) causes the effect of myopia deceleration;

- ambliopia (lazy eye) and accommodative squint at accompanying hyperopia (CRT trains the sight and optimizes the work of the muscular apparatus of the eye);

- professions, where it is impossible to use glasses and day lenses (pilots, steeplejacks, divers);

- people practicing contact kinds of sports, water and speed kinds of sports;

- children and teenagers;

- people, for whom it is contra-indicated to perform LASIK for some reasons.

Contra-indications for refractive therapy:

- any existing pathology of the cornea (keratitis, dystrophy);

- inflammatory diseases of eyelids;

- lagophthalm;

- syndrome of the dry eye;

- inner pathology of the eye.

Historical information:

Ortokeratology is the method of temporary correction of refraction with the help of special lenses. For the first time the effect of the cornea “forming” was discovered in 1940-s, in 1960-s it was researched and then there appeared the very term of ortokeratology.

In the end of 1970-s appearance of rigid gas-permeable materials increased considerably safety of contact lenses as well as became the starting point for the faster development of the new method of sight correction. Thus the history of the method counts more than 40 years.
