Treatment of keratitis and dystrophic diseases of the cornea

The reason of keratitis is infection. The most dangerous are herpes virus, fungi, acantomeba, pseudomona.

Different kinds of keratitises are treated with the help of medicines specific for each concrete infection. The treatment usually takes rather long and does not always result in complete recovery. Severe keratitises entail keratoleukoma, which is left for ever and lowers sight together with spoiling cosmetic looks of a person.

Many types of keratitises have recurrent character causing more and more significant changes in the cornea state with each next attack of inflammation.

Sometimes drug treatment is not effective.

Today there has been found a new method of treating severe inflammatory diseases of the cornea. This method is called the cornea cross-linking.

The method is about sterilizing the cornea completely (destruction of all infection in the tissue of the cornea) with the help of a special device called the lamp of Ziler, providing specially modeled ultraviolet radiation.

One procedure is enough to stop the inflammatory process and liquidate the infection.

Today there is hope for those suffering from severe keratitis.

The method of cross-linking has been used since 1996 for treatment of severe cornea diseases.

The medical centre AILAS was the first to use this method in Ukraine.
