Treatment of glaucoma

Treatment of glaucoma is based of the thorough diagnostic of the patient and evaluation of optic functions of his eyes.

The reasons of the rise of intraocular pressure can be increased production of the intraocular liquid as well as difficulty or impossibility of the flow-out of the intraocular liquid by natural flow-out ways.

That is why the treatment of glaucoma can also be directed either at the decrease of intraocular liquid production or at the restoration or creation of new flow-out ways.

The main task in treating glaucoma is to estimate the target pressure, which is the pressure supporting stable functions of the eyes. This pressure can be estimated by assessing many components of the eye state as well as the state of the organism in whole.

Successful treatment of glaucoma requires periodical (with preplanned frequency) visits to the doctor in charge and performing test measurements of the eye intraocular pressure and examination of the eye functions. However if the required reduction of intraocular pressure cannot be achieved by medicines or corresponding laser procedures, it is necessary to resort to surgical treatment.
